The GTBR Semi-Annual Plant Managers Meeting was held on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at The Pompano. We welcomed Dave Marchese, CEO of Caliche Development Partners LLC.  Dave Marchese has nearly 25 years of experience in the successful development, construction and operation of energy assets, including underground hydrocarbon storage, utility-scale power plants, and petrochemical facilities.  Over the past five years, Dave and his team have grown Caliche—what started as just a vision shared with equity sponsor Energy Spectrum—into a top-tier service provider to Fortune 50 companies, with three active cavern projects supported by 27 employees.

Caliche Development Partners is a Houston, Texas-based company focused on the acquisition, development, construction, ownership, and operation of subsurface gas and liquid storage assets in North America, with a primary focus on the U.S. Gulf Coast.   Safety represents the core of Caliche’s corporate culture and there have been no recordable injuries since the company’s formation in 2017 (~5 years).

Caliche owns a combined 500+ acre facility on and around the Spindletop salt dome near Beaumont, which has permits for 59 million barrels of cavern storage space.  The project currently boasts 5.0 million barrels of operational ethylene storage, a new and operational 3.0-million-barrel industrial gas well, and a third well under construction.  Additional Beaumont assets include four permitted class II saltwater disposal wells, 3.5 million barrels of operational brine storage capacity, and 12.5 miles of ethylene header pipeline in a right of way crossing multiple commodity pipelines.

Because hydrogen, carbon capture, and sequestration play a key role in addressing climate change and reducing C02 emissions, Caliche is committed to becoming a regional leader as the energy transition accelerates.  Specifically, the company is exploring the use of its underground storage expertise to support Golden Triangle Area emitters in their energy transition efforts, actively supports new legislation, and sits on the Carbon Neutral Coalition’s Advisory Board.

Many thanks to the team at Caliche and the support of all our members who were in attendance.
