The Golden Triangle Business Roundtable (GTBR) held its 31st  Annual Contractor Safety Awards Luncheon on August 16, 2022 at the Robert A. “Bob” Bowers Civic Center to recognize and honor this year’s contractor safety award nominees and award recipients. This annual event honors Golden Triangle contractors for exemplary safety performance in the workplace. GTBR members, which are the owner industrial facilities, nominate contractors for these awards and the GTBR Safety Awards Committee evaluates the nominations before selecting the recipients that will be recognized during this banquet. This year was marked by an all-time high number of nominations and attendees at the banquet.

Alastair Port, Executive President of Indorama Ventures, was this year’s keynote speaker and special guests included Congressman Randy Weber and Jefferson County Judge Jeff Branick.  Executives from each Owner site presented the Owner Tribute Awards to each contractor company that was nominated by their site.

“This year, there were 77 nominations from 13 different owner facilities. In 2021, the nominees reported working over 13.6 million man-hours.  The performance metrics of the Industries of Southeast Texas collectively show our OSHA Experience Modifier Rates are well below the national average,” stated Daniel Misko, GTBR Board Chairman and ExxonMobil Refinery Maintenance Manager.  “Considering the current growth rate of industrial expansions throughout our region, and the contribution of Southeast Texas industries to the overall economic benefit to the nation’s fuels, petroleum & petrochemical products, the current trends reflected in maintained safety data are unprecedented and this accomplishment simply needs to be recognized.”

15 contractor companies received competitive awards at the banquet.  Criteria was based on numerous statistics such as recordable incident rates, OSHA incident history, consecutive days since a recordable or lost time had occurred and changes or innovations to programs, processes or procedures that were implemented to keep the workforce productive and safe. Total Industrial Services Specialties received the premier “Donald T. Boumans Pinnacle Award” at the end of the banquet for work done at Motiva Enterprises.
